The Dimboola Fishing Classic will run on the Wimmera River from Dimboola Weir to Ackle Bend on November 22.
Classic organiser Stoph Pilmore said about 150 people had already registered for the event that will help raise money for the Allambi Aged Care Centre at Dimboola.
"We strongly encourage people to register prior to the event, so on the day you can launch your boat or drop your line and start fishing," he said.
"What we hope to avoid is long queues on the morning of the event ."
Entry forms are available at various locations.
In Horsham, people can register and pay prior to the event at Wimmera Outdoors on Firebrace Street. It will cost $20 for seniors and $10 for juniors.
People can pick up forms from the Wimmera Mail-Times office and send them to PO Box 10, Dimboola, 3414.
People can also register at three locations at Dimboola Warner's service station, The Canvas Man and Bendigo Bank.
Registration on the day will cost $25 an adult and $15 a junior.
Mr Pilmore said there had already been action on the river.
"It's been great to see keen anglers sussing out good vantage points on holes along the river," he said.
The Dimboola Fishing Classic is a catch-and-release event and the Wimmera's only boat and bank fishing event.
Angling clubs can also register and compete for bragging rights and a trophy.
This year's major prize is a $10,000 fishing adventure at Dhipirri Sporting and Fishing Lodge in Arnhem Land, NT.
Second prize is three nights on a houseboat provided by RiverFun Houseboats in Renmark, South Australia, while third prize is $500 cash supplied by Webbcon Marine.
The junior first prize is a $1000 fishing package, including a fishing kayak with all the latest gear; second prize is $500 worth of fishing gear; and third prize is $100 cash.
Mr Pilmore said there would also be plenty of minor prizes up for grabs.
