The classic will run from 7.30am to 4pm from the Dimboola Weir to Ackle Bend.
One lucky person will walk away with a senior first prize valued at about $10,000 – an all-expenses paid fishing tour with Dhipirri Barra and Sportsfishing Lodge in the Northern Territory.
The second senior prize is three nights’ accommodation from event partner Riverfun Houseboats, while the main junior prize is a $1000 fishing package, including a fishing kayak with all the latest gear.
A number of other prizes will also be up for grabs throughout the day.
Event organiser Stoph Pilmore said it was not too late for people to register.
He said people could register at Dimboola Rowing Club from 4pm tonight and from 7am on tomorrow morning.
Registration will cost $20 for adults and $10 for juniors today, or $25 for adults and $15 for juniors tomorrow.
Mr Pilmore also encouraged campers to stay within designated camping areas and for people to know their obligations for fires, boating laws and fishing laws.
He said there were fire restrictions in place in the Hindmarsh shire.
The Dimboola Fishing Classic is a catch-and-release event.
Fish will be measured by length and native fish must swim away to be entered for a prize.
Anglers must be present for the presentations to collect their prizes.
A barbecue breakfast will be available tomorrow morning, with refreshments available throughout the day, along with a barbecue from 4pm.
The event will raise money for Dimboola’s Allambi aged-care centre.
Mr Pilmore encouraged people of all ages to get involved and enjoy a day fishing on the Wimmera River.
