A WOMAN who became lost in the Grampians on Thursday night has been found safe and unharmed.

Hamilton Senior Sergeant Gerard Kelly said the woman, 36, was located on Friday morning by a police helicopter and guided to safety.

"We were able to find her co-ordinates via a phone app," he said.

"She was assessed by the ambulance and she had no injuries.

"She was pretty well prepared but just got a bit disorientated and wandered off in the wrong direction."

The woman phoned Parks Victoria at 6pm on Thursday to say she intended to spend the night camping in the park.

At 8pm, she called Triple 0 to report she was lost.

Senior Sgt Kelly said because she was in no immediate danger, police waited until Friday morning to attempt the rescue.

He said it was simply a matter of guiding her to safety.
