He proved that again on Saturday, leading the way with both bat and ball to take his side to an unlikely outright victory against Laharum at Horsham City Oval.
Combe top-scored with 87 at first drop, before picking up match figures of 10-52 – including a hat-trick – to rout the Mountain Men twice inside 47 overs and reiterate why he is one the competition’s most dangerous players.
The Bullants captain said it was his side’s best game this season.
‘‘It was a good all-round team performance,’’ Combe said.
‘‘It’s the first time everyone’s batted well together.
‘‘We’ve been letting ourselves down with the bat and it was good to get that team contribution and then go out and bowl well.’’
After resuming at 1-167, the Bullants batted for a further 21.3 overs before declaring at 7-294 after 67 overs.
Combe and Jordan McDonald resumed on 72 and 56 respectively.
Both were dismissed early on day two, with McDonald the first to go for 61.
All-rounder Josh Colbert, 43, and David Combe, 38, both made quick-fire contributions to give the Bullants a massive total.
An undermanned Laharum side offered little resistance with the bat after an opening partnership of 49 in its first innings, being bowled out for 94 in 25.4 overs and 83 in 20.5 overs.
They had just nine batsmen in the first innings and 10 in the second.
Right-armer Combe collected 6-30 off 7.4 overs – which included his first hat-trick – in the first innings, before backing that effort up with 4-22 off seven overs in Laharum’s second innings.
‘‘It was a pretty lucky day,’’ the Bullants skipper said.
‘‘Huffy tweaked something in his back and it all unfolded from there.
‘‘I don’t think I’ll be able to repeat that performance.
‘‘At the start of the day we were hoping we’d have enough time to bowl them out once.
‘‘We thought we might as well chuck them in again and see how it panned out.’’
Jarred Combe, in his first game for the season, was also pivotal in the second innings, picking up 3-7 off 3.5 overs.
Josh Mahoney top-scored in the Mountain Men’s first innings with 35, while skipper Dan Griffiths scored 27 and 25 in his two knocks.
The win secured the Bullants 10 points – enough for them to leapfrog the Mountain Men and jump into fourth place on the ladder.
Horsham Saints made short work of Jung Tigers at Coughlin Park, Horsham.
Chasing 273 to win, the Tigers’ chase started in horrendous fashion, with skipper Tyler Neville skying a pull shot and being caught at short leg to fall for a golden duck.
Saints opener Tony Caccaviello struck again soon after to rattle the stumps of Dan Brody for nought and the Tigers were 2-2.
Nathan Neumann, 24, provided some resistance, but his wicket sparked a middle-order collapse of 5-4.
Caccaviello, 4-39, and Josh Carroll, 4-26, were the chief destroyers as the Tigers were all out for 99 after 41 overs.
Brandon Campbell remained unbeaten on 28.
The Saints put the Tigers back in, but the visitors offered more resistance in their second innings, reaching 4-124 off 27 overs before the close of play.
Karl Goodwin picked up 3-33 for the Saints.
Neville, 32, and Neumann, 31, both spent valuable time at the crease.
