Liberal candidate for Ripon Louise Staley and Nationals candidate Scott Turner jointly made the announcement on Wednesday.
‘‘A new Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance Single Responder Unit will be based at the existing Ararat branch and will provide additional coverage to the community and the surrounding district,’’ Ms Staley said.
‘‘The new MICA SRU will provide specialist trained paramedics who will support and work alongside the highly-trained advanced life support paramedics in our community.’’
Labor candidate Daniel McGlone said his party’s plan to settle the industrial dispute with paramedics and improve response times would be better for Ararat.
He denied the ALP was too close to the ambulance union.
‘‘They are a major emergency service and there’s been a long-standing industrial dispute where all they’re after is pay parity,’’ he said.
‘‘It’s a shemozzole.’’
He said more ambulance services were needed across the electorate.
