Frost picked up an early wicket before returning at the death to claim wickets with the penultimate and final balls of his fourth over and the first ball of his fifth over.
The left-armer’s heroics removed Michael Rothery, Jason Gilgen and Jason Souter to restrict Colts to 9-214.
‘‘Our captain Paul Clough said ‘I’m going to bring you back on’,’’ Frost said.
‘‘The fifth ball of my fourth over came off the pad and hit the off stump and the next ball hit the pad and I got the lbw.
‘‘I had to wait for an over until I could bowl the next one.
‘‘The hat-trick ball hit the top of middle stump.’’
Frost’s efforts – and three Tigers batsmen scoring half-centuries – helped the reigning premier to a much-needed victory.
‘‘We had to win at the weekend to stay anywhere close to the top four,’’ he said.
Frost has joined a growing club of Horsham Cricket Association bowlers to achieve the rare feat this season.
Noradjuha-Toolondo’s Matt Combe has claimed an A Grade hat-trick, while Rup-Minyip’s Blake Young achieved the feat in B Grade. Laharum’s Gordon Lehmann and another Tiger, Tyler Puls, have picked up C Grade hat-tricks, while Tiger Shannon Reddie took a double hat-trick in the under-16.5s.
Puls’ efforts came against Noradjuha-Toolondo, which will meet the Tigers tomorrow at Dimboola Road oval.
A win could edge the Tigers, who are nine points behind fourth place, a step closer to the top four going into the mid-season break.
‘‘Hopefully we’ll have a win against Bullants,’’ Frost said.
The Bullants are coming off a strong win against Laharum, but will face a sterner test from the Tigers.
In other C Grade matches, Lubeck-Murtoa will host ladder-leader Horsham Saints Black at Murtoa Recreation Reserve.
Horsham Saints Red and Colts will both be out to bounce back from defeats at Taylors Lake.
Second-placed Homers’ experience should see them prove too strong for Laharum at Sunnyside Oval, while Natimuk will slip outside the top four if it loses to Quantong away.
