The association’s men and women will travel to Mount Gambier to take on the powerhouse Lakers in a double-header at the Bern Bruning Basketball Stadium tomorrow night.
The women currently occupy the bottom spot on the ladder, while the men have elevated themselves to seventh place following two wins against competition newcomer Timboon Taipans.
Mount Gambier is at the other end of the spectrum.
It tops the women’s table and is second on the men’s ladder behind the Horsham Hornets.
It will be a tough ask for the men, who come up against conference-leading scorer Simon Berkefeld.
Berkfeld’s average of 25.9 points a game is more than a third of Stawell’s team average of 66.3 points a game.
Jarred Ohayon was one of the competition’s top scorers last season, scoring nearly 17 points a game, but his points average has dipped significantly this season. Joel Freeland now leads the Wildcats in scoring with 17.3 points a game, including a monster 34-point outing against the Hornets earlier in the year.
Freeland and Ohayon will need to be at the top of their games and the Wildcats must contain Berkefeld to keep the scoreboard respectable.
The women will also need to increase their scoring output to compete with the ladder-leading Lakers.
Grace Bibby and coach Rhiannon Davis average a combined 20.5 points a game.
However the team will have to contend with Brianna Walters, who leads the conference with an average of 18 points a game.
