The Natimuk gymnast will attend the camp, which runs from February 13 to 16 at the Australian Institute of Sport, as part of Gymnastics Australia’s Team Future program.
The program is for the best nine to 15-year-old gymnasts in the country who excel in the international levels program.
Irwin, 14, attended a similar camp last year and was branded a potential Olympic-level prospect by national coaches. He said he was excited about returning to Canberra for another national camp.
‘‘I’m really looking forward to it, knowing what to expect this time,’’ he said.
‘‘I think my strengths will hopefully come out in the profile testing again.’’
Irwin said he had improved greatly in the past year.
‘‘I’ve had a lot more training, another competition season and I have increased my hours as well,’’ he said.
Irwin trains at the Gymnastics Victoria High Performance Centre in Prahran.
He was scheduled to move to Melbourne today, in order to train at the centre full-time.
Irwin has also been nominated for the Gymnastics Victoria junior gymnast of the year award. He was one of only three juniors state-wide to be nominated.
Irwin said he was honoured to receive the nomination.
‘‘I feel so happy that all of my hard work has paid off and it’s good to get that bit of recognition,’’ he said.
Irwin’s mother Leonie said he had been in good form leading up to the camp.
