Caltex Horsham donated two cents a litre from fuel dockets collected at its Baillie Street and Poolside locations during summer.
It also donated money from Gatorade sales.
Wimmera Drug Action Taskforce spokesman Brendan Scale said the group was thrilled with the result.
‘‘We were initially expecting maybe $300 or $400,’’ he said.
‘‘We are very appreciative of the donation we have received from Caltex.’’
Mr Scale also thanked the community for supporting the initiative.
‘‘Every dollar donated allows us to continue our alcohol and other drug prevention work in the community,’’ he said.
Mr Scale said the taskforce aimed to get the community to take ownership of the issue of alcohol and other drug misuse.
‘‘We get excited when new community members and groups get on board and want to support our work,’’ he said.
‘‘We were very pleased when Caltex approached us and asked if they could help by raising money for the work.
‘‘Alcohol and other drug misuse affects us all, either directly or indirectly. So it is in everyone’s interest to do what they can to join together to prevent it.’’
