Students from St Brigid’s College, Horsham College, Horsham Primary School and Horsham Special School went sailing on the Wimmera River.
Students learnt the basics of sailing craft from Yachting Victoria instructors.
Sports assembly executive officer David Berry said the event gave young people a chance to try something new.
‘‘It gave participants an opportunity to experience sailing for the first time and gave them a link to the Horsham Yacht Club so that if they are interested in sailing they’ve got contacts there,’’ he said.
‘‘It was part of our Sailability program at the sports assembly, which is for people with a disability.
‘‘There are special boats so people with a disability can participate in sailing.’’
Mr Berry said the students were receptive to the experience.
‘‘They looked like they enjoyed themselves, which was good,’’ he said.
‘‘The response from Yachting Victoria was that the students participated really well.
‘‘The sports assembly is working with the Horsham Yacht Club to help them deliver programs that would suit people with a disability and junior members.’’
