Horsham Motorcycle Club president Kenny Watts said the crash was one that people would normally walk away from.
"He went over a bit of a ski jump, the bike cross rutted and it threw the bike sideways," he said.
"When he landed the bike was sideways and it threw him to the ground.
"I couldn't see what happened after the crash, I turned my head to see watch the race and I didn't realise he was still down until I saw the red flag."
An Alfred hospital spokeswoman said Wilson was in a critical condition at the hospital, after he was airlifted there on Sunday afternoon.
Mr Watts said Wilson received treatment at the track from the Suzuki Racesafe team of doctors.
"They've got doctors and paramedics on site to make sure the riders are taken care of," he said.
"It comes at a cost but the cost is well worth it because they do a great job."
Mr Watts said Wilson was an up and coming rider, and had finished second in his first race of the day, before crashing in the second MEC class race.
