The event recognised those involved in the firefighting and recovery efforts of the Mallee Complex Fire that burned more than 100,000 hectares last year.
Hundreds of firefighters, community volunteers and members of Parks Victoria and the former Department of Environment and Primary Industries responded to the fire, which burnt a large part of Wyperfeld National Park.
Organiser Ben Gosling said the festival exceeded all expectations.
‘‘It couldn’t have gone any better,’’ he said.
‘‘The weather was perfect and it was good crowd.’’
Mr Gosling said the event attracted about 800 people.
‘‘Bringing the community together for a night out is very worthwhile,’’ he said.
‘‘It’s nice to see familiar faces but it’s also nice to see new people in town.’’
Mr Gosling said live music was the highlight of the festival.
Musical acts The Pigs, Davidson Brothers, The Lazy Farmer’s Sons and Ally and the Cats kept crowds entertained during the evening.
Other attractions were children’s activities, a classic car display and a firefighting display with items from District 17 fire brigades and farming equipment.
More than 200 photographs of the area, including pictures of the fire and of the aftermath, rehabilitation and regeneration, were also on display.
Mr Gosling said proceeds from the gold coin donation on entry went towards a Rainbow Recreation Reserve Community Pavilion upgrade.
‘‘The kitchen housed the firefighters during the fire so any improvement will benefit groups for future emergencies,’’ he said.
Mr Gosling said community groups made and sold food and drink on the night.
He said due to the popularity of the festival, organisers would consider hosting a similar event next year to recognise firefighters in the community.
