An Ararat teenager, 13, has been charged for the torture and death of a goose, which was filmed and distributed on social media.
Ararat Sergeant Brett Johnson said police were made aware on Thursday of a video post on Facebook that showed cruelty to a goose in Ararat.
"As a result of local public outcry, the main offender has been arrested and charged," he said.
He said video showed the boy removing an arrow from the goose and kicking it repeatedly before twisting its head off.
Sgt Johnson said the boy, 13, was charged with aggravated cruelty to an animal.
He said the boy was bailed to appear at Ararat Children's Court at a later date.
Sgt Johnson said police were still investigating other possible offenders involved.
He said police were working to remove the video from Facebook.
