A Day At The Lake, at Murtoa’s Lake Marma, raised money for the Coleman family to cover their expenses while they live in Melbourne as Mr Coleman receives treatment for cancer.
Event spokesman Clary Golder said the committee was delighted with the level of support.
‘‘It was a fantastic day. There were heaps of people there,’’ he said.
‘‘We didn’t think we were going to get that many. It was a ripping day.’’
Mr Golder said there was a range of activities for children and adults.
‘‘We had a few little bits and pieces for children such as games and a jumping castle and they decorated their bikes and scooters, with prizes for the best design,’’ he said.
‘‘We also had a fishing competition in the morning, which was well attended, and some live music from lunch time through to 6pm when we pulled the pin.’’
Wimmera bands Clary and the Cocky Stranglers, All the King’s Men and Acousticus Stomp entertained.
There were also live auctions, a wishing well and raffles.
Mr Golder said the family was grateful after the outpouring of community support.
‘‘They came down and had a really good day. They got to feel the love and support of the community,’’ he said
