The group is calling for submissions, including photos, programs and stories, for the anniversary book.
Council president Simon Dandy said 50 years was a great achievement.
‘‘We thought creating a book would be a good way to document the past,’’ he said.
Included is history about how the council formed and past productions.
‘‘The council formed when various organisations merged in 1965,’’ Mr Dandy said.
‘‘We want to document each decade, detailing what shows were done and who was in them.’’
The council has started interviewing prominent figures to get their stories and experiences.
The book will include profiles on people who have gone on to do professional work in theatre, and pay tribute to former members.
‘‘We know a lot of the key figures, but there will be people who have passed away who we don’t know about,’’ Mr Dandy said.
‘‘We also want to gather people’s funny stories, photos and old programs.
‘‘Photos are a big one – if anyone has any photos, we would love to be able to use them.’’
The council hopes to publish the book by October.
Mr Dandy said people could call him on 0404 092 407 or email simon.dandy@capitis.com.au if they had anything to contribute.
