Parts of Victoria received up to 100 millimetres of rain last week, with large downpours falling in the Gippsland region.
The northern Mallee was also soaked, with Mildura receiving 56mm in one day and Ouyen receiving 26mm.
However, the Wimmera has remained relatively dry.
So far this month, Horsham has recorded 14.6mm, Nhill 16mm, Warracknabeal 18.6mm and Stawell 24.2mm.
The Bureau of Meteorology predicts the Wimmera will receive between 120mm and 150mm of rain from May to July.
The bureau expects the Wimmera to receive about 30mm of rain in May and between 30mm and 40mm in June.
McKenzie Creek farmer Neville McIntyre said he was ready for cropping, but needed more rain.
‘‘All of nature’s signs suggest the break is not far away,’’ he said.
‘‘The tractor has been serviced, the equipment is greased, the seed is cleaned and the super has arrived – I just have to add water to the paddocks and off we go.’’
The bureau also predicts the weather will be warmer than average from May to July.
The average temperature in May is set to be about 17 degrees and the average June temperature is predicted to be about 14 degrees.
