Angus Trethowan booted three goals for the Burras as they ground their way to a 7.12 (54) to 5.8 (38) victory on Saturday night.
Coach Jaye Macumber said his side had to make a lot of moves to outlast the Tigers.
‘‘Nhill came out with a good game plan and it took us a while to get our head around it,’’ he said.
‘‘We had to pull out a few things to get the win.’’
He said lessons learnt from the previous week’s loss to the Saints came into effect against Nhill.
‘‘We defended extremely well and our forward line pressure was really good,’’ he said.
‘‘We worked on how we wanted to move the ball through certain areas.’’
Despite the win, Macumber still pointed to goal-kicking accuracy as an area of concern.
‘‘Again, our conversion cost us,’’ he said.
‘‘The shots we missed were right in front, so it’ll be back to goal-kicking practice this week.’’
Nhill coach Alan Bennett said he was pleased with his side’s endeavour.
‘‘I thought our intensity was good, our tackling and our defensive pressure,’’ he said.
‘‘We moved the ball well, but just couldn’t convert our inside-50s into goals.’’
The Burras’ win was soured by injuries to last year’s best and fairest Justin Garth and John Delahunty.
Garth was cleared of any structural damage to his lower leg, while Delahunty will receive concussion advice from a doctor this week.
Both will be a chance to play this week against Dimboola.
