Mayor Mark Radford said more than 90 recipients would benefit.
‘‘The grants will help fund not-for-profit projects that aim to enhance the health and wellbeing of residents and encourage people to participate in the sporting and cultural life of the region,’’ he said.
‘‘The programs that received funding reach out to all areas of the community, providing residents with opportunities to learn new skills, seek support and maintain connections to the community.
‘‘There are many dedicated community groups operating in the municipality, each providing valuable services, programs and events to support vulnerable community members and enrich the lives of all.
‘‘Council is proud to offer significant funding to enable these groups to provide grassroots programs that make a difference in the lives of individuals and make Horsham an inclusive, connected and supportive place to live.’’
Cr Radford said the grants program represented a productive investment throughout the community, providing positive returns.
‘‘Apart from the investment, these grants provide much-needed funding to many organisations in our community,’’ he said.
‘‘It means they can run new programs or training, buy equipment or continue to run important community services.’’
Among the grant recipients is the Tidy Towns committee, which is building a shelter for the historical May and Miller Wagon.
The Horsham City Brass Band will use its grant for new uniforms.
Other recipients include community events such as the Horsham Fishing Competition, Kannamaroo Festival and Carols by Candlelight.
Cr Radford said people could visit hrcc.vic.gov.au and click on the community and community grants links for a full list of the 2015-16 community grant recipients.
