The Blues held sway for large parts of the match, but were goalless in the first three quarters.
Trailing by 38 points at the final change, Donald managed four goals to three to close the match, but could not bridge the gap in the 9.7 (61) to 4.9 (33) loss to the Bulls.
‘‘After half-time we controlled the game a fair bit, but that final kick inside 50 let us down,’’ Fisher said.
Jarred Newell impressed for the Royal Blues, while Nick Garner was stoic in defence.
St Arnaud continued to prove it is a force in the North Central league, smashing Boort by 117 points on Saturday.
The Saints had 51 scoring shots in the demolition, which included nine individual goal-kickers.
It continued St Arnaud’s impressive run of scoring 100 points or more in each of its games in 2015.
Last year’s grand finalist Charlton claimed its second win of the season, moving to fifth by beating Wycheproof-Narraport by 35 points.
It leaves the Blues with a record of 2-2 after the first four rounds of the season.
