Thirteen year 11 students visited Laharum and Wartook on Friday to clear weeds and maintain trees planted by college students last year.
Horsham College outdoor education teacher Clair Breed said the excursion was part of the year 11 outdoor education and environmental studies curriculum.
She said the excursion was designed to teach the students about community action and conservation.
‘‘The students were cleaning up old tree guards and making new ones,’’ she said.
Laharum Landcare members helped the students.
Miss Breed said the students had the opportunity to learn more about the organisation’s work.
‘‘They enjoyed it. They didn’t realise how much Landcare does,’’ she said.
‘‘Without Landcare, it’s a big job.’’
Miss Breed said the students usually had an excursion once a term.
