Miss Meyer won first place in the 'beautiful brides' category in Melbourne on Sunday.

She wowed the judges with her modern take on a beehive hairstyle, which she had to style in 40 minutes in front of a crowd and judges.

Miss Meyer came second in the category last year.

"It was a bit overwhelming," she said.

"After last year I felt a bit of pressure, but I sort of knew what they were looking for."

This year she also entered the 'braiding of today' and 'male design cut' categories.

Miss Meyer has been a hairdresser for five years and works at D'Coco Hair Studio in Horsham.

D'Coco owner Jo Burford said she was proud of Miss Meyer, who started her apprenticeship at the salon five years ago.

"She's come a long way and she just keeps getting better and better," she said.

"She's a young girl who has shown a lot of inspiration and passion and is enjoying the ride.

"It's exciting to think a country hairdresser can be as good as the city ones."

Miss Meyer said she would compete in the competition again next year.

"The day is fun in itself, especially the adrenaline of being live on stage," she said.

"It's nice to do something different."

Miss Meyer said she wanted to try her hand at even more categories.

The win continues a successful year for Miss Meyer, which included being chosen by hair care product company Matrix as one of five hair stylists to be part of a 'hot team'.

The program gives hairdressers an opportunity to train with expert stylists from all over the world for two years.
