Standing at 175 centimetres tall and with plenty of strength and athleticism, many would picture her dominating on a netball court.

While she is no slouch when it comes to netball, her heart lies on the football field.

Since starting football last year, Blake has embraced the sport and plays in three teams.

She plays in the under-14s for Swifts in the Horsham District Football Netball League, the Ararat Storm in the Ballarat Football League youth girls competition and is a member of the North Ballarat Rebels youth girls academy.

Up against boys of a similar age in under-14 competition, she doesn’t just hold her own – she dominates.

Blake won a premiership with the Baggies last year, booting two goals in the grand final against Edenhope-Apsley.

Her brother Seth kicked three.

Blake was due to play for the Storm tomorrow against Ballarat but was sidelined with a broken collarbone suffered while playing for Swifts at the weekend.

While she cannot play, Blake will attend the match and travel with her teammates to Melbourne on Sunday to watch the AFL women’s match between Western Bulldogs and Melbourne teams.

The match is a curtain-raiser for the the men’s game.

Blake said playing at a national level was something she aspired to.

‘‘I started playing last year and enjoyed it,’’ she said.

‘‘I’m hoping I can get to that stage.

‘‘My goals are to get to Vic Country and state level and things like that.’’

Blake’s mother Jo said she tried to convince her daughter to take up netball instead, but she would not be swayed.

Mrs Blake said her daughter had been successful in her short football career, including a runner-up finish in the Ararat Storm best and fairest last year.

She said she hoped Genevieve’s example would inspire other girls in the region to take up football.

‘‘Swifts have helped the Storm out by letting us train there once a week and use the lights for free, which is good because we’re a small club and we haven’t got a lot of funds,’’ she said.

‘‘We’ve moved our second home game to North Park in Stawell on June 21, so it would be good to see some people come down to support us and get some other girls interested in playing.’’
