About 170 pupils from Horsham West, Haven, Ss Michael and John’s, Laharum and Natimuk primary schools and Horsham’s Holy Trinity Lutheran School attended the event on Wednesday.

Pupils took part in three rounds of various maths challenges in groups of four.

Maths olympics organiser and Horsham College teacher Heather Deayton said the activity was run each year during Education Week.

‘‘Horsham College runs the activity to give year six pupils from our local schools an opportunity to mix with one another in a curriculum-based competitive situation,’’ she said.

‘‘Most year six pupils will be changing their schools when they start secondary schooling next year, so it is good for them to have the opportunity to mix with other students they might be at high school with.’’

The theme for Education Week this year was Crack the Code with Maths.

Ms Deayton said the children enjoyed the maths challenges.

‘‘We always get really positive feedback from the primary schools about the olympics,’’ she said.

‘‘We are also told that the kids really look forward to the day.

‘‘The enthusiasm and level of engagement throughout the day delights both the primary school and Horsham College staff who are in attendance.’’

The overall winning team was Natimuk Primary School team the Geo Geniuses.

Second place went to Horsham West Primary School team the Right Angles.

A Horsham College year 10 class helped adjudicate and record results.
