After a slow start to the season, Border Districts had won its past two matches heading into the clash with the Roos, but fell flat in a 27.8 (170) to 14.5 (89) defeat.
The team trailed by just 10 points at the first change after a tight opening term, but in the next three quarters conceded seven, seven and nine goals respectively to be overpowered on the scoreboard.
Coach Mark Good said despite the heavy defeat, his side performed well in patches.
Good believed the hype from the previous fortnight might have contributed to the poor performance.
‘‘I won’t say it was expected, but we’d been having such a great past couple of games. We were a bit flat,’’ he said.
‘‘We didn’t have our drive like we’ve had the last couple of games. We didn’t carry the footy well.
‘‘You’re never happy with a loss but we had a few players who were down on form.’’
Good praised the opposition for an impressive showing.
‘‘Lucindale was pretty good around the stoppages. They pride themselves on not getting beaten in that area,’’ he said.
‘‘They got off the leash in the second quarter and they move the ball well across the ground.’’
Good said the Roos barely missed a beat in front of goal.
‘‘They kicked some pretty fluky goals. They were very good on the boot.’’
Fraser Adams was among the best for Border Districts, as were Joel Thomson and Cam Sandercock.
Sam Mardling and Patrick Baker both kicked six goals for the Roos in a strong showing up forward.
In other fixtures, Bordertown thrashed Kingston by 150 points while Keith came from 12 points down at three-quarter-time to beat Padthaway by a point.
Naracoorte beat Kybybolite by 17 points and Penola scraped home against Mundulla by six points.
Kaniva-Leeor United had a bye.
