Former courier and now multimillionaire Gary Baron admitted he was the mystery winner of last October's Powerball draw when confronted by angry members of the syndicate last Sunday.

Tatts Group has now been asked to provide details of the entity or person who purchased the ticket and received the proceeds. It will also be required to identify the method of payment and identify any account holder if the winning ticket was purchased online.

The lottery giant has already agreed to comply with any court order and will provide the information within 14 days.

Lawyers representing 14 members of the syndicate made the request in the Supreme Court on Thursday after Mr Baron's lawyers refused to provide any information.

"I do not have instructions to provide you or your clients (the syndicate) with any of Mr Baron's personal Tatts history or information," said lawyer Tom Lynch, acting for Mr Baron.

The court ruling is expected to be the first step in civil action against Mr Baron, which is likely to include a request to freeze the assets of the 49-year-old lottery winner.

Until last Sunday, Mr Baron had repeatedly denied winning the massive windfall to several members of a 16-person syndicate, who had entered the lottery on a regular basis since 2009. He is understood to have told another former colleague that he had received a significant inheritance.

Within months of winning the lottery on October 16 last year, Mr Baron had purchased a new home in the Geelong suburb of Lara, paid $200,000 for a convertible BMW M4 and bought property for his son.

Fairfax Media revealed exclusively that the angry syndicate members are about to take Supreme Court action against Mr Baron, who collected $20 each week from his co-workers and entered the draw via an online Tatts Group account. A writ is expected to be lodged this week.

The syndicate members live in Geelong and the Bellarine Peninsula and met while working as couriers for logistics company Toll Group.
