The week gives libraries and information services the opportunity to showcase their resources, events, contacts and services to the community.
Corporation information technology and marketing manager Leanda Elliott said the week was successful.
‘‘We have had a great variety of events and good numbers at events, so we are pleased with how it has gone,’’ she said.
Ms Elliott said visits from authors Rosalie Ham, Denis Crawford and Narrelle Harris were highlights.
This year’s theme was ‘imagine’.
Ms Elliott said the theme was incorporated into a drawing competition open to Wimmera schools.
‘‘We got kids to imagine and draw their favourite reading spots. The entries were displayed at various branches. There were some very entertaining ideas,’’ she said.
As part of the week, libraries at Birchip, Dimboola, Donald, Edenhope, Horsham, Kaniva, Nhill, St Arnaud and Stawell took part in National Simultaneous Storytime on Wednesday.
Wimmera children joined others across the country to hear the story The Brothers Quibble by Aaron Blabey.
Ms Elliott said about 25 children attended the Horsham event and took part in an art activity after the story.
She said the visit from Melbourne author Harris – who toured libraries at Warracknabeal, Edenhope, Horsham, Nhill and Dimboola – was fantastic.
‘‘She did a writing workshop at Edenhope on Wednesday. The theme was killer opening sentences and different ways of starting a book or piece of writing,’’ she said.
‘‘She also did talks called Growing Up Reading, which were fascinating.
‘‘She took examples from her own childhood and discussed the benefits of reading from an early age.’’
Harrow residents can get involved in Library and Information Week at an afternoon tea at Harrow Library on Friday.
The week will wrap up at St Arnaud Library on Sunday with a community meet and greet.
The event will run from 11.30am until 1.30pm.
