Hospitality teacher Cat Clarke said 13 second-year hospitality students served 100 people from an a-la-carte menu at the college hall on Wednesday night.
‘‘It was sold out two weeks ago – the community support has been fantastic,’’ she said.
‘‘It’s been busy and hectic but I like being able to share a realistic experience with my students.’’
The students had 12 options for people to choose from: four entrees, four mains and four desserts.
Ms Clarke said the students started preparing the food on Wednesday morning and made everything from scratch.
‘‘The food was amazing and made here, from the bread to the pasta and all the desserts – even the ice cream,’’ she said.
Ms Clarke said the students learned a range of skills, including cooking, communication, time management and teamwork.
‘‘They also learnt a sense of responsibility,’’ she said.
This was the second dinner the students had put together for the public this year.
Other hospitality students were waiters for the occasion.
Ms Clarke said the students would organise another dinner next term.
She said money raised from the event this week would cover the food cost with any remaining money going towards updating the school’s cooking equipment and funding a trip to a restaurant for the students at the end of the year.
