McRae continued to be a class above during Tuesday’s penultimate round, as moving day offered an opportunity for challengers to cut the margin and give themselves a chance.
But it was not to be, as McRae fired her best round of the championships to date.
Another beautiful day on Tuesday allowed players to take advantage of ideal conditions, and no one did it better than McRae.
An 80 ensured her 11-stroke half-way advantage was nearly doubled.
At the start of Thursday’s fourth round, McRae had a 20-shot lead to defend – a seemingly insurmountable margin for the chasing pack.
But the battle for second still had some spice, with an 87 from Heather Greenaway and an 89 from Julie Wirth on Tuesday leaving them tied for second on 271.
Rounds of 87 from Lisa Jakobi and 89 from Pam Watkins left those two tied on 272 heading into Thursday's final round.
It was McRae's 17th A Grade title win.
Kaye Smith squeezed a win from Robyn Watts in B Grade action.
Smith also won the Puss Smith trophy for players over 65.
The trophy is named after her mother-in-law.
In C Grade, Joy Tonkin came from behind to win on Thursday.
Rose Paynter fired a third round 107 on Tuesday to lead by five over Tonkin and Joy Pretlove.
In the regular competition on Tuesday, Heather Greenaway’s nett 73 won A Grade on a countback from Sharon Wynne.
Championships leader McRae’s 74 gave her a third-placed finish.
A nett 73 from Colleen Dix in BGrade gave her a countback victory over Robyn Watts, and a nett 75 from Elizabeth Robertson was good enough for third.
Joy Tonkin’s nett 75 scored her a win in C Grade, while Rose Paynter fired a nett 77 and Donna O’Connor a nett 78.
