During the past few weeks, my friends and colleagues Cass Dalgleish and Erin McFadden have been putting together the annual Mail-Times Your Wedding Planner magazine.
As they have combed through hundreds of photos and spoken to newly married couples about their weddings, it has made me reflect on my own big day.
At times it seems like it was just a few months ago that I donned the most beautiful dress I will ever own and walked down the aisle to my soul mate.
Other times, it feels like it was decades ago – probably because my now husband and I have been together for almost 12 years, so we’ve felt like an old married couple for a long time.
In reality, our wedding was three-and-a-half years ago – not that long in the grand scheme of things, but long enough to make it feel, at times, like a distant memory.
A lot has happened in that time.
We bought our first home, went on a six-week trip to Europe, and we had two babies.
The babies were of the fluffy kitten kind, but the pressure from our families for us to start a family of our own is mounting.
A couple of weeks ago, we visited friends near Geelong who have a 10-week-old baby girl – of the human kind.
My husband got text messages from both my mum and his mum asking – hoping – if seeing the baby made us clucky.
It’s nice they are so keen.
The pram my grandma has ready and waiting in her spare room I’m not so sure about though.
It’s so big I thought about half-jokingly suggesting she might be able to use it as a makeshift gopher before a baby gets in there.
If that’s not pressure, I don’t know what is.
But it all comes from love.
Anyway, back to weddings.
For most people, getting married is a once-in-a-lifetime thing, hence why people want the day to be absolutely perfect.
It is one of the most significant points in a person’s life and, if you are planning a wedding with all the bells and whistles, it’s a lot to organise.
A wedding planner with practical advice from couples who have gone through the process is one of the most handy tools you can have.
I hope when our special publication comes out at the end of the month it gives those who are married a chance to reminisce about their own special day.
Or, if you are planning to get married soon, it’s a chance to get plenty of ideas to help you on your way to happily ever after.
