Ararat coach David Hosking not impressed despite win

The Rats led by 31 points at the final change after a five-goal third term from the Eagles cut a significant half-time deficit.

With the margin suggesting the Eagles were a chance going into the final quarter, the Rats quelled any chance of a comeback, kicking five goals to one to close the match.

Hosking said the Rats were not at their best.

‘‘I thought we were pretty poor, to be honest,’’ he said.

‘‘I thought Warrack came to play and put together some good passages of football.

‘‘Our ability to link up needs to improve and we need to work more for one another.’’

Hosking highlighted Riley Taylor as a youngster who was proving an asset for the side.

‘‘He can run the footy and when he does that we look dangerous,’’ he said.

Gordon Laurie kicked seven goals as the Rats took advantage of Eagles’ lapses.

Coach Dan Krahe said while aspects of the game pleased him, his side needed to produce better for longer.

‘‘The boys showed in patches they can play the game with a bit of belief,’’ he said.

‘‘But we had some major lapses there where they kicked six goals in 10 minutes.

‘‘When that happens it’s game over.’’

Eagle Ben Martin was a straight shooter up forward, kicking seven goals, but had little support.

The Eagles were hit with another injury on Saturday, with Jake Leith suffering a suspected ACL injury.
