Students travelled to Mount Gambier at the weekend for the S and K Limestone Coast solo and duo championships.
Principal coach Kylie Hermans said all students performed well, with two coming away with outstanding results.
Maddison Cook, 14, placed first in her age group’s calisthenics solo category and third in the graceful solo category.
Alana Hermans, 17, placed first in her age group’s graceful solo category and second in the calisthenics solo category.
Maddison said her success meant a lot to her because she had practised her routines for months.
‘‘It also gives me confidence for other competitions later in the year,’’ she said.
Maddison said she did not expect to place because it was the first time she had competed at that competition.
‘‘I was very excited,’’ she said.
‘‘I love going to competitions with my team and getting to see some of the friends I have made from other clubs.’’
Alana said it was exciting to place in both her performances, especially because it was her first time competing in the senior age group.
‘‘It was a big surprise and I wasn’t expecting to place at all,’’ she said.
‘‘I have been working really hard and it was great to be rewarded for that.
‘‘It also gives me something to work towards for the rest of the year, and receiving any place is always exciting.
‘‘I love getting out on stage and spending the day at the competition with my friends and team-mates.’’
College students will start competing at team competitions in August.
