Susan Goodwin has started a Facebook page calling for more train services in the region.
She said an increase in trains would benefit everyone.
"Older people definitely prefer catching trains because it's a big deal to get on and off a bus," she said.
"There is also the added anxiety that the bus won't get to Ararat on time to catch the train.
"People who work in Stawell or even Ballarat would benefit.
"It would also help tourism in Horsham if people can just get on a train at Melbourne and come straight here.
"We have plenty of places for people to eat and stay, it's just getting here that's the problem."
Mrs Goodwin said it would also open up more opportunities for young people, who are studying or working.
"Mums with small children often find it a lot easier to travel by train," she said.
Mrs Goodwin said the campaign came about through her own experiences with public transport.
"I go to Melbourne quite a bit to see my grown up children," she said.
"I have to get on a bus to get to Ararat and I'm not overly happy about that.
"There are more services that go from Ararat than what there are buses from Horsham to Ararat.
"I know there used to be service from Horsham too because I used to catch it about 20 years ago."
Mrs Goodwin said she hoped with enough likes on Facebook, politicians would take notice.
The page has 1293 likes so far.
"Everyone has been supportive, there hasn't been one person who isn't so far," she said.
"I'm hoping to get 3000 likes and then I'm going to start writing to councils and politicians to see if they can get behind us."
Mrs Goodwin encouraged people to like the Facebook page - 'Bring trains back to Horsham'.
