Quantong artist Anthony Pelchen will be in the Melaka Arts and Performance Festival MAPFest from September 21 to 23.
The festival features dance, performance art, visual art, film and music.
Pelchen began his involvement with the festival while on a four-month University of Melbourne Asialink residency near Kuala Lumpur in 2010.
The 2012 festival will be his fourth.
MAPFest, founded in 2009, is an initiative of Pelchen's long-time friend and collaborator Tony Yap.
"As one of Australia's foremost choreographers and performers, Tony's new role as creative director of the festival is breaking new ground in bringing contemporary performance and visual art to his hometown of Melaka and in forming links with Australia," Pelchen said.
"I find it particularly valuable to be immersed in a predominantly Islamic country at this point in history and to have a regular, powerful counterpoint to life in the Wimmera."
Pelchen will participate in the festival with Natimuk artist Trevor Tagliabue.
Tagliabue's installation, 'Mothness 77', will feature 77 small, moth-like objects, made from discarded wood found in the Wimmera and Melaka.
Pelchen will show installation 'Code Maroon', featuring a Dimboola op-shop maroon suit with a high visibility orange vest over it and a soundtrack of Quantong sheep.
He thanked Wimmera people Lorelle Esmore and Robbie Millar for their help with his artwork.
