Tania and John Davey, of Horsham, were driving on the Western Highway at Buangor Sunday last week when their vehicle was hit by a loose car trailer.
Mrs Davey sustained fractures on her fourth and fifth vertebrae, a broken arm, broken fingers, broken femur, broken ankle and broken toes.
The severity of the injuries has left Mrs Davey unable to run her family daycare business.
Mr Davey is the primary carer for his elderly father.
He suffered from internal and external bruising and a dislocated finger in the crash.
Both Mr and Mrs Davey were taken by road ambulance to Ararat Hospital after the crash.
From there Mrs Davey was airlifted to The Alfred Hospital where she is currently receiving treatment.
Mr Davey was discharged from Ararat the evening of the crash.
Now, the couple’s friends Jo Weyburg and Renee Snell have organised a musical evening at the Commercial Hotel in Horsham to get the Daveys back on their feet.
Mrs Weyburg said Mrs Davey had four operations in the space of a week, including a skin graft on her arm.
“As the swelling goes down they’re finding more breaks,” she said.
"Her road to recovery is going to be long and painstaking.
“It’s a tragic thing that’s happened to good people.”
She said all proceeds would go towards living expenses for the couple while they recovered.
"Tania would have to be the most generous person I've ever laid my eyes on, she’s always helping someone," she said.
"They've been left if the lurch with nothing.
"I don't want John to worry about money while Tania's recuperating.”
Mrs Weyburg encouraged people to come to the Commercial Hotel for the fundraiser on July 25 from 9pm to 1am.
Mr Davey's band The Last Stand and another Horsham band Viscera will perform on the night.
Mrs Weyburg said tickets were $20 which included nibbles.
She said drinks would be at bar prices.
Mrs Weyburg said it was unclear when Mrs Davey would be able to come back to Horsham.
She said if Mrs Davey could not physically attend the fundraiser, she would join the festivities via Skype from The Alfred.
Mrs Weyburg said tickets were available at the Commercial Hotel, Roberts Avenue Hair Design, Surf One and Wimmera Outdoors as well as on the door on the night.
She said there would be another fundraiser for Mr and Mrs Davey in August.
