The Roos cut a 13-point half-time deficit to on six points at three-quarter-time, but managed only a behind in the final stanza.
Coach Jaye Macumber said his side made a positive start to the match.
"We had a really good first quarter. We had really good defence all across the ground," he said.
"But they upped the ante in the second and our movement wasn't as strong. Our disposal wasn't as good."
Matt Coleman was the leading goal-scorer on the ground, with three goals for the Burras, while Xavier Kelly impressed early.
Dimboola's Ash Clugston was held to one major by Burra John Delahunty.
"Johnny was absolutely fantastic for us," Macumber said.
Josh Rentsch kicked two goals for the Roos as Jayden Lehmann and Lachie Watts led the way.
