Powercor will replace 891 mercury vapour lights with energy efficient Light Emitting Diodes within the shire.
Up to 23,000 mercury vapour street lights will be replaced in 16 municipalities across the state as part of the $11.6-million project.
Lights will be installed at St Arnaud, Glenorchy, Stawell, Halls Gap and Great Western.
Ararat Rural City, Hindmarsh, Horsham Rural City, Yarriambiack and West Wimmera are also project partners.
Northern Grampians Mayor Murray Emerson said the project is a positive for council, the community and the environment.
“We’re all looking for ways to save money and simple lighting changes can help do this with an added benefit for the environment,” he said.
