The school host a week long intensive week of musical theory and practice during the winter school holidays every year.
School administrator Peter Battersby said 89 students participated this year from across the state, including about 50 students from the Wimmera.
Mr Battersby said throughout the week students took part in band and ensemble sessions and theory tuition.
“The hours are 9am to 5pm and then 7 to 8.30pm,” he said.
“They learn 12 months of theory in one week it’s pretty full on.”
He said each student sat a music exam at the end of the week.
Mr Battersby said students had a range of experience, from beginner to advanced.
He said many of the students continued to excel in music after attending the school
“There are a lot of talented kids out there and we try to nurture them,” he said.
“The instructors are all voluntary labour and 90 per cent of them came from the band school.”
Mr Battersby said the program was hosted in a different location every year.
He said this was the fifth time the school ran in Stawell.
Students performed pieces they had rehearsed throughout the week at the Stawell Secondary College school hall on Sunday.
