FORMER Horsham Fire Brigade captain Mathew Walsh was recognised for his service at a ceremony on Saturday.
Mr Walsh, now department group officer, received a National Medal for 15 years of diligent service and a National Emergency Medal for his work during the Black Saturday bushfires alongside a number of his Horsham colleagues.
“The awards were very special for all of us. Black Saturday was a terrible day and a terrible time but there was a lot of effort by everyone,” he said.
“I feel very privileged. My father received a National Medal years ago so it’s nice for me to receive it now.”
Mr Walsh also received a commemorative plaque to recognise his time as a Horsham captain and officer.
