Many, including fellow Sydney legend and Goodes’ former teammate Michael O'Loughlin say the booing is without a doubt racist in nature.
“To be called an Abo, a nigger, a black so and so, for your entire life, and then expected to sit there and accept it, it's a reflection on Australia and where we are as a country,” he said.
"For people to say it's not racist … What else can it be?’’
Others disagree – such as radio shock jock Alan Jones.
Jones delivered a scathing assessment of Goodes on Wednesday, saying the champion footballer always "plays the victim" and needed to change his behaviour if he wants crowds to stop booing him.
“Someone's got to ask the question: why are they booing Adam Goodes and not the other 70 Indigenous AFL players? Adam Goodes can fix this by changing his behaviour.”
