The Country Practice exhibition will unfold across several locations in the city and is designed to celebrate and spark dialogue with the communities that share, host and encounter it.
The project celebrates Horsham Homing Club and its 98-year history, the Horsham Regional Art Gallery and Mack Jost’s desire to give the Wimmera community access to high quality Australian art.
A special flag created by Melbourne artists Kate Daw and Stewart Russell was unfurled by Horsham Homing Club artists and members on Thursday.
The custom-made flag represents Horsham Homing Club’s 1973 pigeon race from Flinders Island to Horsham.
As well as creating the exhibit’s flag, Daw and Russell will race pigeons from Horsham to Yarraville and then back to Horsham as a celebration of the project.
They will also display a number of framed photographs from the homing club’s archives.
Los Angeles artist Fiona Connor will display a bulletin board-style piece reminiscent of boards found in metropolitan Los Angeles.
Australian artists Geoff Newton and Isabelle Sully will also display art as part of the project.
The exhibition will be at a number of locations in Horsham including Horsham Regional Art Gallery.
Country Practice opens on Friday at 6pm.
The exhibition will run until September 27.
