Miss Cowell, 18, has completed three overseas trips and is studying Certificate Three in Travel online through South West TAFE.
Her passion for travel led her to a job with the Horsham and Grampians Visitor Information Centre. “Ever since I can remember all I’ve wanted to do is travel,” she said. “I want to see the world. It would be good to help others do the same.”
Miss Cowell said she enjoyed promoting tourism in the area while learning more about the industry.
“The course isn’t focused on an information centre, but it covers a lot of things in the tourism industry, so it helped to prepare me for the work,” she said.
“I love being able to do it when it suits me.”
Miss Cowell said she loved helping Wimmera people at the information centre, but also had her eyes on future overseas travel. “I went overseas in January on a short volunteer program at a childcare centre in Cambodia,” she said.
“It was wonderful. I’d love to go back.”
Miss Cowell has also been to Thailand and New Zealand, but is passionate about home.
“I really encourage people to come to the Horsham and Grampians area to see all the beauty we have to offer,” she said. “It’s a great area.”
