The exercise, led by State Emergency Service Grampians operations manager Kenda Clegg and Horsham Sergeant Michael Salter, was an opportunity for emergency services and rail authorities to discuss the procedure in the event of a train derailment.
Ms Clegg said the exercise was successful.
“We learnt a lot about how emergency services work with rail agencies to ensure a smoother response,” she said. She said it was a good opportunity for all organisations to meet and become familiar with one another in a setting outside an incident.
“It’s important for everyone to understand their roles and responsibilities to work together efficiently,” she said.
“It’s good to know who’s who in an emergency.
“We also focused on consequences of rail derailment to freight transportation and the Western Highway to minimise the impact on community and business.”
