After the Kees trailed all day, by as much as 28 points, full forward Josh Beddison kicked three goals to open the last quarter and drag his side back into contention.
Kalkee finished with 16.16 (112) to defeat the Lakers 14.11 (95).
The big talking point will be the send-off of Laker Ben Roberts, which left his side down a man for much of the final term.
The hard running and slick ball movement which had put them in front through the first three quarters disappeared when Roberts left the field.
Instead the Kees dominated play, with Shaun Gilbert and Ben Harrison putting together a terrific ten minutes of footy as they won the ball around the packs.
Jye Smith, Deek Roberts and Josh Young had been everywhere in the first half for the Lakers and their dominance allowed them to take an early lead.
They kicked the first three goals of the game through Patrick Purcell , Josh Murphy and Nathan Koenig.
By half time they were leading 71 to 43 but couldn’t seem to break away from the Kees.
Every time they scored the Kees responded and kept themselves in the game.
It would prove crucial to the last quarter which the Lakers went into with a four goal lead.
After a low scoring third term the play began to get congested around the stoppages and it seemed as if the Lakers were set to grind out the last quarter for the win.
But their run stopped and they couldn’t keep up with the Kees at the end of the game.
After the Kees took a 17 point lead the experience of the senior Lakers got them back with in three points.
Andrew Watson then took a strong contested grab in the forward pocket and a goal would have put his side back in front but instead he missed the tough checkside kick.
With the minutes ticking down the Kees responded and found two more goals, with Gilbert drifting forward to kick the sealer.
By the time Roberts was allowed back on the ground there were only minutes left and the Kees controlled the ball at stoppages to see out the game with a win.
