In what was expected to be a beautiful day at Horsham City Oval, the rain arrived early, causing slippery conditions on-court.
The Saints handled the wet surface better in the opening stanza and led 8-4 at the first change, going to the city end of the court, the direction which proved to yield the most goals throughout the match.
The Lakers hit back in the second though, scoring four of the first five goals to draw within one midway through the quarter.
But Edenhope-Apsley settled well, ensuring it went into the half-time interval tied up at 11-apiece.
The second began as a tussle, as the two sides struggled to separate themselves.
Lavinia Fox stamped her authority on the match in goal-attack, proving pivotal in the attacking circle as well as up the court.
The Saints found their way to a 15-12 lead, but Taylors Lake drew within a goal at the final change to give itself a chance.
Despite going to the city end in the final term, the Lakers fell behind by three goals and were forced to conjure a come-from-behind victory.
It seemed unlikely, but they managed to put together some much better play in the back half of the final term, storming home with the last six goals of the match to salute a 21-18 premiership triumph.
Lakers coach Michelle Slorrach said to win was very exciting.
“It was the first time we’ve played in wet weather,” she said.
“There was pressure because we hadn’t lost all year and there were people saying we might do what Laharum did in the football last year.
“I just said to the girls before-hand that they had to remember to have fun out there.”
Taylors Lake’s Chloe Kelm was named best-on-court after a strong display in attack.
She scored 13 goals, including five in the final term as the Lakers made their premiership-winning move.
Lavina Fox was prolific for the Saints, netting 13 goals as well.
The Lakers’ win capped off a brilliant season that saw them go through the season undefeated.
