The Rats and Warriors finished third and second respectively on the ladder, and will now face off in a rematch of their earlier qualifying final.
On a breezy day in Ararat, the Rats claimed a six-point triumph as the Warriors failed to convert numerous opportunities in their front half.
Rats coach Ali Williamson a consistent year for the boys was the perfect lead-up to Saturday’s big dance.
We are not getting a head of ourselves as I would suggest we would be the underdogs for this weekend, which is what we thrive off,
- Ali Williamson, Ararat coach
“We’ve had a very consistent year and I think the boys are building their team structure perfectly for Saturday,” he said.
“I would suggest we would be underdogs this weekend which is what we thrive on.”
Williamson said the Rats would enter the match with a focus on accountability.
"We’re concentrating on keeping a lid on it this week and we’re going in relaxed,” he said.
“The boys have gelled really well and as a group they are very close which gives me subtle confidence.
“They have an expectation of each other out there and our team rules are non-negotiable. There is no room for individuals.”
Stawell’s coach Brett Graveson the Warriors were keen to bounce back from last year’s loss in the under-17 decider.
“After last year’s disappointment, we were determined to make it this year to avenge our lose,” he said.
“We have had our ups and downs during the year, but we’re hitting our straps at the right time.”
Graveson said having a number of team-members step up to senior level had helped the team.
“It’s not going to be an easy task. Two rivals going head-to-head for the premiership cup. It’s a contest we’re all looking forward to it,” he said.
“If we play as a team and want it more than the opposition, then there’s no reason why we can’t win.”
