STAWELL defeated Ararat 38-29 in the 13 and under Wimmera Netball Association grand final at Warracknabeal on Saturday.
The Warriors shot out to a comfortable lead early in the game as they dominated play and made life tough for the mid-court Rats’ players.
Warriors’ goal shooter Dakota Casson was outstanding as she made use of every opportunity which came her way.
She was well supported by goal attack Eliza Marrow and the pair worked well together to create scoring opportunities.
Further up the court, wing attack Isabelle Simmons was working hard to link up with centre Tessa O’Callaghan as the Warriors transitioned from their back-half.
O’Callaghan’s strong performance also saw her awarded best on court after the game.
By half-time the Warriors held an 18-9 lead and it was always going to be tough for the Rats to comeback from there.
Danielle Segedinski worked hard at centre and wing attack Jesse Bligh was everywhere as she worked her away across the court.
These players lead the Rats in the second half and it helped them restrict the Warriors scoring.
They were also able to find more opportunities for their shooters but it made no difference to the final result.
By the final siren the Warriors had maintained a strong nine-point lead to win the grand final.
