I have never let myself go so far, for so long, and barely recognised my hirsute pins before this heatwave forced my hand. 

Winter proved to be too packed to pursue unessential beauty treatments this year, and when jeans, pants, leggings, dresses and long skirts partnered with thick black tights were easily accessible, why would I wax? 

Temperatures in the 30s definitely lead to less likelihood of layering though, meaning some limelight for long limbs must be allowed for. 

Therefore, uncomfortable quality time with hot wax was unavoidable this past weekend – with my shouts of pain only been drowned out by the roar of the crowd on the telly during the football grand final. 

Post procedure, I’d like to say that I was simply gliding through life with less wind resistance, however the removal of my winter warmth led my eye to glide down my naked leg and notice my naked toenails. 

Open toed shoes go hand in hand with bare legs and absolutely definitely without question require a splash of colour on the toes. This meant a quick paint job had to be completed before stepping out. 

Meanwhile, another concern revealed itself; I don’t have the kind of legs that go all the way up, mine end in hips. Now, hips are very handy, but can also become quite hefty during the hibernation phase. 

This surprise burst of summer weather during spring, has not allowed we women the necessary count down period required to make dietary changes that enable disposal of our winter growth – which can weigh up to around four kilograms if you are not careful. 

So, although the sunshine, the legs and toenails were looking sharp, finding something to wear that fits nicely looks like it might prove to be the next challenge I face.   

Light-bulb moment; hitting the shops may be just the solution I am looking for. How handy that this brings us full circle to supporting some small local businesses. 

I always knew I didn’t have a reason to feel guilty about going shopping.
