Smithett was a former member, lady captain and club champion of the club and was well-known for her wealth of work around fellow western Victorian clubs.
Players from across the state have flocked to the Wimmera for the events, with Tuesday’s four-ball aggregate stableford and Thursday’s open stableford events serving as an important warm-up for Friday’s 46th Nell Smithett Memorial Trophy teams stroke event.
Lady captain Trudy Parker said 15 teams from different clubs are expected to play on Friday.
Players from Bendigo, Warrnambool, Mildura make up the 88 golfers signed up.
Tuesday’s team event was won by Kath Rook and Marg Taylor, who combined for 67 points, one ahead of Judie Krahe and Maggie Smith, who amassed 66 points to win on a countback from Joy Pretlove and Chris Burgess.
