They will get that chance at redemption, with Horsham's preliminary final win over Dimboola setting up at grand final re-match.
Two sets of brothers were involved in last season's grand final heart break and will return tomorrow.
It is the last time the Krahe brothers, Brad and Dan, will play football together.
Arthritis in the hip has forced Dan Krahe, 25, into an early retirement, but he would love nothing more than to win a seniors flag with his older sibling to finish it off.
"It would mean everything to me to win a premiership with my brother, and just with the club itself," he said. "It was something I wanted to do before my career ended, but unfortunately injury has ended my career a lot sooner than I would have liked."
Krahe admitted he was close to pulling the pin earlier this year, but a chance of getting one back on Horsham gave him the extra motivation to keep going.
"I probably shouldn't even be playing this year, but just knowing that we're so close to that premiership urged me on to keep going," he said.
Brad Krahe, 28, said it would be a fitting finale to his younger brother's time in senior football.
"It's a shame that his career has had to end so early but that will edge me on that little bit extra on Saturday," he said.
Tomorrow's game at Central Park, Stawell, will mean a lot to another set of brothers, Steve and Grant Schultz, with the latter missing most of the 2011 finals series with a knee injury.
Co-coach Grant Schultz said it was tough watching from the sidelines, but he felt he had returned to his best this year.
"What happened last year is still in the back of our minds," he said.
"The boys are all still well aware of what can happen if you don't play well but the feeling at the club has been fantastic this week and we're confident of a win.
"I feel like I've hit some good form at the right time of the year after a rusty start."
Schultz said the Eagles' line-up was far stronger than the team which finished runner-up in 2011.
"I think we've got a better side this year, we've said that all along," he said.
"Our form over the past six weeks is exactly what we want leading up to a grand final."
Steve Schultz said he was gutted after falling at the final hurdle last year, but it gave his side some 'fire in the belly' heading into the weekend.
"We don't want to be in that position again, so we're definitely trying to turn that around," he said.
Unlike last year, the Eagles have defeated its top-of-the-table rival, with the most recent coming in the qualifying final on September 1.
Warrack came back from eight goals down at quarter time to snatch a remarkable 20-point win.
