WITH very hot and windy weather forecast across the Grampians region on Wednesday, fire agencies are urging people to stay informed about the severe to extreme fire danger forecast.

Fire danger in the Wimmera and Mallee has been rated as extreme.
Horsham is expected to hit a top of 34 degrees.
“Even though the temperatures have been up and down over the past week, summer is definitely here,” Grampians Regional Controller Rob Price said.
“It is vital people remain aware of the fire conditions and possible fire risk in their area on hot and windy days.
“We’re expecting a very windy and hot day on Wednesday with forecast temperatures in the mid to high 30s and strong winds of 50 to 70 kilometres per hour across the west of the state.
“These strong winds have the potential for fires to develop and spread quickly, so people must be alert and prepared for large and fast moving fires.
“Whether it be leaving early or defending their property, people should have a bushfire plan and be thinking about what they need to do well before the event of a fire.
“Communities should make sure they stay informed via the various information channels available.”

All fires in the open air for burning grass, scrub, stubble or rubbish are banned during Total Fire Ban days.
Campfires are not permitted at all and authorities will have zero tolerance for anyone lighting a fire on a day of Total Fire Ban.
